Kathleen Shaffer's Remembrance

Even though I was the only girl, I also followed Chris to swim practice and cross country practice. Like everyone says, his motivation was inspiring and it’s worth noting that all of this motivation came from within himself. It was never anything my parents asked of us—he just had so much energy. My teenage years were defined by being Chris’s little sister and by spending hours upon hours at the elm ave park. All the girls my age absolutely worshipped Chris but he never took advantage of this and was always kind and respectful. And this, I think, gets to the heart of something else about Chris, he was actually very sensitive and respectful. I was openly critical of his job and his pursuit of money but he always reminded me that he wanted to use this money to someday become a very present father. It was hard to argue with that sweet sentiment. I wanted Chris in my life my whole life. I always wanted to see him because he was so invigorating to be around. And in this sense I will miss Chris more and more every year.
